On the 11th and 18th of July 2016, a new series of debates have been organized in AMBASADA by our volunteers from ZURY Association and Timisoara 2021 Association.
With around 20 participants, the discussion revolved around the subjects of global and local food, trying to identify issues and opportunities by focusing on the situation of Timisoara.
Splited in two groups, as locals and internationals, our debaters have exchanged their views on the situation. Both of these groups agreed that local food is a potentially good platform to support the local community, opening ways for horizontal integration. Despite the potential aspects we realized that the niche is more and more(progressively) threatened to dissapear.
The second part of this debate about local and globalized food market was to highlight concrete solutions. The case of ASAT (Asociaţia pentru Susţinerea Agriculturii Ţărănești) was presented by our keynote speaker Adrian Briciu. This organization makes customers engage themselves to support local farmers on the long term, by providing a relationship based on trust and by providing economic security to the farmer.
However, adding to the economic limitations, the local food market has many reasons to be supported by the commnity, as to educate our children with good understanding about the local food importance. In our neighbour countries, many cases can give us examples of good practices to implement : educational program of gardening, creation of local label and food hub, urban gardening in the cities or agritourism.
The purposes of our debates are to build a community between locals and internationals by the use of dialogue and in the same time, enhance proactivity.
